Woven in France
Influenced by the medieval Mille-fleurs and the 16th century Aristolochia or Cabbage Leaves, the verdure tapestries appear in Flanders. Brussels and Audenarde in the early 17th century. Verdure tapestries could be compared to landscape-painting, no characters, no religious or mythological scenes, only nature and occasionally a few animals or buildings in the background.
